SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Sumitomo Chemical will shut down its propylene oxide (PO) plant in eastern Japan for regular maintenance in mid-May, market sources said on Monday.

The 200,000 tonne/year PO plant in Chiba prefecture would be closed for about 40 days, they said.

Domestic and regional supply was not expected to tighten considerably as current demand was moderate and the company would have built inventory before the turnaround, they added.

The company has declined to comment.
