BUENOS AIRES (ICIS news)--With the inauguration of a new production facility at Paulinia in Sao Paulo, Brazil next April, Braskem plans to increase its market share in South America, a company source said on Wednesday at an international trade expo.

“The consumption of the prolypropylene is increasing by 10% every year in Argentina and Brazil, reaching a potential market of 1.5m tonne/year” said Rui Chammas, business director of polypropylene (PP) for Braskem during the XII International Plastics Exposition in Buenos Aires.

In 2007, the apparent consumption for PP was of some 229,120 tonne/year, according to Argentina's Plastics Industry Association (CAIP), which sponsored the event.

“The new plant, that has required an investment of $350m (€224m), will export 30% of its total production to external markets,” said Nelson Letaif, director of corporate communications.
