SHANGHAI (ICIS News)--PetroChina North China planned to shut down its aromatics unit in Hebei province for scheduled maintenance in April, a source said on Thursday.

The exact date of the shutdown and the length of the turnaround were not disclosed.

The production at its downstream styrene monomer (SM) unit would be impacted due to a lack of feedstock benzene during the turnaround and it would probably be shutdown too, the source said.

The SM unit was currently running at 30% of capacity due to a shortage of benzene feedstock, another company official said.

PetroChina North China produces 60,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 80,000 tonnes/year of SM.
