LONDON (ICIS news)--India appears set to continue its 2008 urea purchasing programme after State Trading Corp (STC) announced a tender, traders confirmed late on Thursday.

STC issued the tender on Thursday, for closing on 7 April, for an unspecified quantity of urea under a long term, formula-based contract, traders said.

It has requested offers for shipment dates from April this year to March 2009. It is estimated that around 1.25m tonnes will be required over a one-year period.

In addition, Indian Potash Limited (IPL) is expected to issue a tender around 1 April, closing around 10 April, to buy up to 650,000 tonnes of urea for April-May shipment.

These buying plans follow the purchases of India’s MMTC under its 12 March tender.  In total, around 625,000 tonnes of urea were bought from various origins including China and the Middle East.
