BUENOS AIRES (ICIS news)--Argentina’s polypropylene production capacity is expected to grow for the foreseeable future to meet increased demand, a Petroquimica Cuyo official said on Thursday.

A PP plant could be built every 2.5 years in Argentina to meet local demand, said Andres Soto, manager of exports and marketing for Petroquimica Cuyo.

The Argentina PP producer increased its nameplate capacity to 130,000/year in 2007, he said at the annual International Plastics Exposition in Buenos Aires.

Fuelled by the growing economy, the market wants new capacity investments from local producers, Soto said in Spanish.

Argentina consumed 233,060 tonnes of PP in 2007, compared with 217,816 tonnes in 2006.
