SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Petron Corp has achieved on-spec propylene production at its new fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) unit in Bataan, the Philippines, said a company spokesman on Friday.

The propylene recovery unit, which has a capacity of 140,000 tonnes/year of polymer grade propylene, was started up on 17 March after achieving stable operations at its new FCC unit.

"We expect our first shipment of [on-spec] cargo to be shipped at the end of March. Thus we are not in the spot market to purchase any more cargoes," said a domestic buyer contracted to take the majority of Petron’s cargoes. Another cargo of chemical grade propylene was heard sold to Taiwan.

The company is studying plans to invest $1.5bn (€945m) to add units at its FCC over a period till 2014 to increase petrochemical production.
