SAN ANTONIO, Texas (ICIS news)--Indelpro’s polypropylene (PP) plant expansion in Mexico remains on schedule, with new production to begin in mid-May, a company official said on Monday.

The new production is intended to gradually capture a larger share of Mexico’s domestic market, said Indelpro commercial manager Gustavo Talancon.

Initially, the company will also look to export product to US, as well as destinations in the Caribbean and Central America, Talancon said.

The new plant line will have a guaranteed production capacity of 350,000 tonnes/year, with the possibility of exceeding that amount by as much as 28%.

Currently, the Indelpro plant has nameplate capacity of 240,000 tonnes/year, which would increase to 590,000 tonnes/year.

If no delays are encountered during the start-up procedures, the company expects to have on-spec product to sell by the end of May if it encounters no delays during the start-up.

Talancon spoke at the 33rd National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) meeting. The meeting began on Sunday and runs through Tuesday.
