NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--India’s SRF Limited plans to expand its chemicals complex in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, at a cost of rupees (Rs) 1.18bn ($29.6m), a government official said on Tuesday.

The authorities had given environmental clearance to the project, which would see an increase in chloromethanes capacity from 30,000 tonnes/year to 37,000 tonnes/year and hydrofluoric acid capacity from 7,500 tonnes/year to 12,000 tonnes/year, added the official.

The company would also expand hydroflourocarbon-134a (HFC-134a) capacity from 2,000 tonnes/year to 6,000 tonnes/year, the official said.

SRF also planned to ramp up the capacity of its multi-purpose fluoro specialty chemicals plant from 350 tonnes/year to 2,500 tonnes/year, the official added.

HFCs are ozone-friendly substitutes to chloroflourochemicals (CFCs) and hydrochloroflourocarbons (HCFCs).

Apart from manufacturing fluorochemicals and downstream chemicals, the company produces nylon yarn, tyre chord fabrics, industrial fabrics and polyester films at different locations in the country.
