SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemicals & Fiber Corp (FCFC) has yet to get the green light to start up its new 600,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in China, a company source said late on Thursday.

He said the company had already obtained approval from the central government but the facility at the eastern port city of Ningbo still had to undergo checks by the local authorities.

Separately, the source said construction works at its new 400,000 tonne/year PTA-purified isophthalic acid (PIA) swing line in Taiwan were near completion and the plant would be commissioned earliest by June.

This new facility would be the second PTA line at Loong-der, Ilan county. The company has an existing 700,000 tonne/year unit in the northern Taiwanese town.

FCFC also runs two 550,000 tonne/year PTA lines in Mailiao, on the western coast of the island.
