SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Nippon Oil plans to start up its 360,000 tonne/year paraxylene (PX) joint venture plant in Japan by late May after a catalyst change and maintenance, a company official said on Friday.

The plant – a joint venture with Kyushu Oil – is located in Oita prefecture and was shut at the end of February.

Nippon Oil’s 350,000 tonne/year PX unit in Kawasaki will also have a month-long turnaround in August.

The producer also plans to shut its No. 1 line in Mizushima for maintenance from October to November.

“We have no shutdown plans for the other line,” the official said.

Each line has a PX nameplate capacity of 225,000 tonnes/year.
