TORONTO (ICIS news)--German biofuels producer association VDB is supporting the federal government’s decision on Friday not to raise bioethanol blending to 10%.
The move was reasonable because of the large number of cars that could not accommodate such a high blending level, said Verband der Deutschen Biokraftstoffindustrie (VDB).
Also,
VDB stressed that the government’s move did not affect biodiesel.
In fact, the government should consider boosting biodiesel blending to meet its greenhouse gas reduction targets as long as bioethanol could not be supplied on a sound commercial and ecological footing, VDB said.
A large number of vehicles could run on 100% biodiesel while other diesel-powered vehicles could take biodiesel blends of 7-30%, it added.
Biodiesel could be produced on a sustainable basis using domestic feedstock, said VDB, adding that German biodiesel producers had invested heavily in past years to boost capacities to 5m tonnes/year.
