SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Thai Paraxylene’s new benzene unit is on track to produce on-spec material by early May, said a company source on Wednesday.

The plant in Sri Racha, eastern Thailand, will produce 170,000 tonnes/year of benzene.

The company also planned to reach on-spec production at its PX facility by the end of April, the source added. The unit was restarted towards end of March following maintenance and debottlenecking to raise the PX capacity from 348,000 tonnes/year to 490,000 tonnes/year.

Feedstock isomer grade xylene for the plant’s PX production would be sourced from a company facility, which had also undergone debottlenecking.

The company allocates 70,000 tonnes of isomer grade annually for spot sales after channelling the rest for PX production. This volume was not likely to see any reduction after the expansion, he added.

Thai Paraxylene is owned by major Thai Oil.

Other key producers of benzene in Thailand include PTT and Rayong Olefins (ROC).
