LONDON (ICIS news)--Initial second-quarter liquid sulphur contracts in the US Gulf have been settled at a $200/long ton increase over first-quarter levels amid strong demand, tight supply and higher international prices, market sources said late on Wednesday.
This increase takes prices to around $450/long ton CFR (cost and freight)
Phosphate producer and sulphur buyer Mosaic said that it had agreed the majority of its second-quarter contracts at the $200/long ton increase.
Sellers confirmed some contracts had been settled at this increase and that others were still under discussion.
The substantial rise was widely expected given demand is currently strong with phosphate producers looking to maximise production at a time when US and global supply is tight.
