SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) had scheduled to restart its olefins conversion unit (OCU) in Mailiao towards the end of May, but further delays cannot be ruled out, a company source said on Thursday.
“There are technical problems yet to be resolved and we would be changing some catalysts and equipment. It may not be ready by the end of May but we have to see,” the source said in Mandarin.
The OCU, which has a production capacity of 250,000 tonnes/year of propylene, had been shut down since 19 February due to technical issues. It was previously expected to restart by the end of April.
The company now faces low propylene inventories with no extra volumes to export due to the prolonged outage at the OCU unit, a scheduled turnaround at its residual fluid catalytic cracker (RFCC) unit as well as an unexpected shutdown at its No 1 cracker.
