HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exports were 115,338 tonnes in February, an increase of 89% from the same month one year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Thursday.

However, PVC exports for the month were 2% lower than the 117,997 tonnes shipped in January.

Canada was the top destination for US PVC exports in February at 38,089 tonnes, followed by Brazil at 23,647 tonnes and Egypt at 6,171 tonnes, the ITC said.

Although a slump in US construction activity has weakened demand for vinyl construction materials in the domestic market, producers said PVC demand is stable from Canada’s housing market and Brazil’s infrastructural expansion projects.

US PVC export spot prices were assessed in the $1,050-1,080/tonne FOB (free on board) US Gulf range, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

US PVC producers include Shintech, Georgia Gulf, Formosa, Occidental Chemical, and Westlake.
