SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korean producer, Yeochun Naphtha Cracking Center (YNCC) will shut down its No 1 and No 2 units producing benzene, toluene and mixed xylenes (BTX) in mid-April, a company source said on Friday.

The Yeochun-based facilities would go offline from mid-April for 10 days for scheduled maintenance, he added.

The No 1 plant produces 140,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 80,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 50,000 tonnes/year of solvent grade xylene while the No 2 plant produces 120,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 60,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 40,000 tonnes/year of solvent grade xylene.

The shutdown was expected to tighten supply of solvent grade xylene from the country, a South Korean producer said .

The company had built up stocks to tide over the shutdown period and could sell May cargoes of solvent grade xylene, the source at YNCC said.

There are only three producers of this grade of xylene in South Korea- YNCC, Honam Petrochemical and LG Chem.
