LONDON (ICIS news)--Major producer of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) Artenius is set to restart its UK plant this weekend after a planned shutdown, said a company source on Friday.

The 500,000 tonne/year plant in Wilton, northeast England, was shut down on 26 March and work had now almost been completed, which would allow rates to be ramped up on Sunday or Monday, added the source.

“We may be one day later than planned but have not had any issues. Providing we get back in stride quickly we should be able to catch up, although we have seen a pick up in demand in April,” added the source.

Offtake into the key polyethylene terephthalate (PET) sector was considered better in April, as expected, given the seasonal nature of the product, much of which goes into the plastic bottle sector.
