US Ashland to use Dupont/Tate & Lyle bioplastic

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--The performance materials division of US firm Ashland will expand its line of renewable resins to include products made with a bioplastic from DuPont and Tate & Lyle, the company said on Monday.

Ashland will use the bioplastic, Susterra, to expand its Envirez line into the building industry, the company said.

In addition, Ashland will use Susterra to add more Envirez products to its existing markets in the agriculture, marine and transportation industries, the company said.

Susterra is the brand name of 1,3 propanediol (PDO), which is produced by DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products, a joint venture formed by the two companies.

The joint venture produces the bioplastic through a process that uses corn sugar.
