BUENOS AIRES (ICIS news)--Argentina’s Petroquimica Capitan Bermudez has shut down its Santa Fe province sodium hypochlorite and chlorine plant in Rosario City amid a labour union dispute, a source said on Tuesday.

The dispute between the company and the local Chemical and Petrochemical Union of Fray Luis Beltran began with the dismissal of seven employees of Poliservicio SA, which was in charge of the weekend staff at the plant.

The local chemical union, which is part of the union organisation FESTIQyPRA, and the provincial Secretary of Labour and Social Security Carlos Rodriguez will meet on Friday, the source said.

But the union is demanding that the owner of Petroquimica Capitan Bermudez, Sergio Taselli, also be present at the meeting, said Daniel Santillan, the leader of the Chemical and Petrochemical Union of Fray Luis Beltran.

Petroquimica Capitan Bermudez has argued that the dispute has hurt operations at the plant, which produces 100 tonnes/day of chlorine. The union maintained the company has not been hurt by the dispute.

The shutdown would leave 70 workers unemployed, although they still continue to attend their place of work.

The main chlorine manufacturers in Argentina are Atanor, Clorox, Ledesma, Petroquimica Rio Tercero, Solvay Indupa and Transclor.
