LONDON (ICIS news)--Maintenance work at Egyptian urea producer Helwan Fertilizers' plant has been completed and it is expected to restart this weekend, a company source said on Thursday.

The 55,000 tonne/month granular urea unit, based in Helwan, south of Cairo, was shut down around 5 April to allow equipment specifications to be checked.

“We have completed all of our maintenance work and next week we will start up,” said the source. “Probably on Sunday.”

Some final checks were currently being undertaken.

Helwan has agreed to supply 50,000 tonnes/month to the domestic market in May, June and July at a yet to be agreed price.

This will leave Helwan with only around an extra 5,000 tonnes/month available until August.
