SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Asia’s largest bisphenol-A (BPA) spot seller Nan Ya Plastics has shut its No 4 production line due to weakening market demand, a company official said on Friday.

The 130,000 tonne/year line, located at its petrochemical complex in Mailiao, Taiwan, was shut earlier this week, although the official declined to specify the exact date of the shutdown.

“We are reducing our production rates due to weak overall demand,” the official said in Mandarin, adding the operation rate cuts were to ease inventory pressure and that there were no immediate plans to restart the line.

Nan Ya Plastics has three other lines at the same location and has a total BPA production capacity of 420,000 tonnes/year.

Other BPA majors in Asia include Kumho P&B Chemicals, LG Chem, Mitsui Chemicals and Mitsubishi Chemical.
