MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Russia's southern Astrakhan region will co-operate with gas giant Gazprom and petrochemical major Sibur Holding to build a 500,000 tonne/year polyethylene (PE) plant, the Astrakhan regional government said on Friday.

The feasibility study for the project would be completed in the first half of this year, while actual construction was due to start in 2009, regional governor Alexander Zhilkin said.

In January 2008, Sibur allocated roubles (Rb) 236m (€6.35m/$10m) to finance a pre-feasibility study of the new PE plant.
