LONDON (ICIS news)--INEOS is cutting back production at its refinery in Grangemouth in Scotland as it prepared to face a workers’ union strike from next Sunday, the company said on Monday.
INEOS was preparing for a total shutdown of its 200,000 bbl/day unit by Friday 25 April and had started to close the two crackers down along with various downstream chemicals units.
Up to 1,200 workers at Grangemouth are due to strike on April 27 and 28 over plans to end a final salary pension scheme for newcomers and other pension changes.
INEOS was meeting the union later on Monday and was still hopeful that it could avert the strike, said company spokesman Richard Longden.
Longden said it was too early to know how customers would be affected by the shutdowns.
