LONDON (ICIS news)--Akzo Nobel will discontinue the ICI brand following its acquisition of the UK coatings company, CEO Hans Wijers said on Monday.

"Our research findings confirmed that the Akzo Nobel name is well respected and trusted… and commands significant brand equity,” said Wijers at the Akzo Nobel annual general meeting.  "Its use, combined with our products, adds a high degree of value."

“Therefore, while all strong product brand names such as Dulux and Glidden will remain, ICI will be discontinued as a corporate name,” he added.

Akzo Nobel completed the £8bn takeover of its coatings rival in January after ICI shareholders accepted a third bid from the Dutch company.

ICI brand was formed in 1926 and played a significant role in the development of the global chemicals industry.
