ACIT chairman Cherie LaughlinHOUSTON (ICIS news)--The newly-named chairperson of a Texas chemical industry supplier organisation said on Wednesday her main goals are to increase membership and to coordinate activities with chemical manufacturers.

Cherie Laughlin, manager of communications and public affairs for the Bayer Industrial Park in Baytown, was recently named board chairman of the Association of Chemical Industry of Texas (ACIT).

Laughlin, who will serve as chairman for two years, said she will focus on increasing the size of the organisation, which already has 350 members.

“We need to build energetic committees, to recruit new members and then to retain them,” she said. The association provides educational and networking programmes for its members, she said.

Each year, the association and the Texas Chemical Council (TCC) host the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) seminar. This year’s event will be held 9-12 June in Galveston and is expected to draw 500 people, Laughlin said.

Comprised of the companies that supply services and goods to the Texas chemical industry, the association will also work toward coordinating activities with chemical manufacturers, she said.

ACIT also deals with issues including state tax reform and tort reform.
