SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mitsui Chemicals, Asia’s largest phenol-acetone producer, has extended the shutdown at its plant in Chiba, Japan, by 7-10 days due to technical problems, a company official said on Thursday.

The plant – a joint venture with Idemitsu Kosan – was shut down on 18 March and was initially slated to resume operations on 25 April, the source added. It can produce 230,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 80,000 tonnes/year of acetone.

Mitsui also runs another plant in Chiba with a nameplate phenol capacity of 190,000 tonnes/year and 114,000 tonnes/year of acetone. The plant would be shut down in November for a one-month turnaround, the source added.
