SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Reliance Industries plans to shut down its 190,000 tonne/year vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant at Gandhar, in Gujarat state, for around a week in May for annual maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

However, production at the adjoining 245,000 tonne/year downstream polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant would not be affected by the proposed VCM shutdown, the source said.

“We will procure imported VCM to feed the PVC plant,” he added.

VCM supply in Asia is expected to tighten in the coming months due to turnarounds.

PVC and VCM producers in India besides Reliance, include Finolex Industries and Chemplast Sanmar.
