SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--The sale and production of 257 chemicals in Beijing must be approved by the city’s Municipal Public Security Bureau (BMPSB) from 1 May in a bid to curb pollution ahead of the Olympics, said a bureau official on Friday.

No manufacturer could produce and transport the restricted chemicals without official approval from 1 May to 17 October, the source added.
“We are doing our best to ensure a safe Olympics,” the official said.
The restricted list includes propylene, ethylene, aniline, acetic acid, methanol, urea, ethanol and monoethylene glycol (MEG).
The restriction order is waived for those enterprises operating under the Beijing Administration of Work Safety.
