HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Planting of the US corn crop has continued at a slow pace, with only 10% done as of 27 April compared with an average 35% for the same period in the previous five years, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said on Monday.

Wet weather in the US midwest has slowed the start of the corn planting, and has backed up the ammonia supply chain.

That has raised questions about how much ammonia will be applied to the crop and how quickly storage tanks will be refilled.

The 18 states measured by the weekly USDA survey accounted for 91% of the US corn acreage in 2007.

In the previous week's survey, only 4% of the corn crop had been planted, compared with a five-year average of 17% for that period.
