SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--The Polyolefin Co (TPC) plans to shut down its 180,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) unit on Jurong island from mid-July till the end of August for an annual maintenance turnaround, a company source said on Tuesday.

TPC’s 70,000 tonne/year LDPE/ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) swing unit, located at the same complex, would operate normally during the period, the source added.

The turnaround would cause the region’s existing supply constraints to intensify, traders said.

LDPE prices in Asia rose last Friday by $10-20/tonne to $1,740-1,760/tonne CFR (cost and freight) China and $1,760-1,790/tonne CFR southeast Asia on tight supply and rising feedstock costs.
