HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Argentina’s first-quarter chemical production increased by 6.5% year on year, the country’s statistics institute said on Tuesday.
In March alone, chemical production increased by 6.1% compared with the previous month, the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC) said. INDEC does not provide tonnage figures for production.
First-quarter basic petrochemicals production was up by 5.2% year over year. The figure for March increased by 16.8% relative to February.
Total agrochemicals output for the quarter was up by 9.7%. March fell by 3.7% from the previous month.
First-quarter production of pharmaceutical products rose by 6.2% from a year earlier. March rose by 8.9% from February.
Argentina's output of detergents, soaps and personal products grew by 12.0% during the first quarter when compared with the same period of 2007. The figure for March was up by 5.0% relative to February.
Production of plastic raw materials and synthetic rubber grew by 7.4% for the quarter. March rose by 5.1% relative to the prior month.In this segment, plastic products led with a 6.9% increase for the quarter. Rubber tyres production increased by 1.0% over the first quarter of 2007.
