India’s GACL to set up polyols & phenols plants

NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--India’s Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) plans to set up polyols and phenol plants under its three-year investment programme, the company said on Wednesday.

The Indian Rupees (Rs)26bn ($645m) investment plan also includes a hydrazine plant and expansion of  hydrogen peroxide, chlor-alkali and captive power capacities.

The company said the new chlor-alkali plant would have capacity to produce 600 tonnes/day of caustic soda and captive power plant’s capacity would be 90 megawatts. It did not give the capacity for other plants.

GACL would commission a 100 tonnes/day caustic soda flaking unit, an additional 50 tonnes/day of caustic soda capacity through debottlenecking, a wind power turbine and a sulphate removal system in the current financial year ending 31 March 2009.
