SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Asia spot butadiene hit a fresh record of $2,000/tonne (€1,293/tonne) late on Friday on tight supply and urgent deep-sea demand, a source close to the deal said on Friday.

The surge caught many sellers by surprise, given that CFR-based prices were hovering around $1,950/tonne CFR (cost and freight) Asia.

The 1,500-tonne Malaysian cargo, priced on an FOB (free on board) basis, will load from Pasir Gudang in the south some time in June to a Japan-based trader, he said, adding that the bidding for the cargo was hotly contested.

Recent supplies have been tight in Asia due to cutbacks by naphtha cracker operators.
