Oman PP has extended the shutdown By Prema Viswanathan

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Oman Polypropylene (PP) has extended the shutdown at its Sohar plant by a further four weeks to end-May due to a delay in the restart of its propylene supplier, a source close to the company said on Friday.

No reasons were given for the delay.

“Propylene supply from the plant’s propylene feedstock supplier, Sohar Refinery, will only be available in late May, after the refinery restarts,” the source said.

The prolonged outage would further tighten the already restricted PP supply in the Middle East, traders said.

Oman PP officials were not available for comment.

This is the second time the restart of the PP plant has been delayed.

The 340,000 tonne/year PP plant, which was shut down on 31 March due to a disruption in supply of propylene feedstock, was earlier expected to restart by mid-April. The shutdown was then extended by two weeks.

The Sohar Refinery, Oman PP’s propylene supplier, went down on 31 March due to technical problems, the source said.

The PP maker is 40% owned by Oman Oil. LG International, Gulf Investment and International Petroleum Investment each hold a 20% share in Oman PP.
