SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Kumho P&B Chemicals has restarted its No 2 bis-phenol A (BPA) facility in South Korea this morning, a company official said on Monday.

Kumho’s BPA production facility, located at its Yeochun petrochemical complex, was shut down on 17 April for routine maintenance and the No 2 line with a nameplate capacity of 125,000 tonnes/year was restarted on schedule today, the official said.

The 35,000 tonne/year No1 BPA line, which was shut down at the same time, might not be restarted, as it is due to be mothballed once Kumho’s new 150,000 tonne/year No 3 line, located at the same complex and due to begin commercial production towards the end of June, comes on-stream, he added.

"We will have to look at the market situation before deciding on whether to restart the line," the source said, in the wake of poor BPA prices due to lacklustre demand in the key China market.
