Urumqi breaks ground on CNY3.9bn PX project

SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--PetroChina subsidiary Urumqi Petrochemical has broken ground on a 1m tonne/year yuan (CNY) 3.9bn ($553m) paraxylene (PX) complex in Xinjiang, said a company source on Tuesday.

 

The plant was expected to be completed by 30 September 2009, the source added.

 

The aromatics complex project will work in tandem with a 10m tonne/year refinery in Dushanzi, Xinjiang province.

 

Meanwhile, PetroChina will also invest CNY38.6bn on a new refinery and ethylene complex in southwestern Sichuan province.

 

The plant would have capacity of 10m tonnes/year for refining oil and 800,000 tonnes/year of ethylene, added the source.
