SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--LG Chem, South Korea’s largest isopropanol (IPA) producer, has shut down its 45,000 tonne/year No 1 line to connect its facility systems, a company official said on Tuesday.
The unit was taken offline last Friday and was expected to resume operations in early June, about the same time that a new 55,000 tonne/year No 2 line would come on stream, he added.
"We can’t sell any quantity during May but exports could be possible from mid-June," the official said.
The producer had said earlier that it would be linking up its existing and upcoming IPA lines to its storage tank during this period.
Unlike the No 1 line, which produces IPA using propylene, the second line would use acetone as feedstock.
Both lines are located in Yeocheon in South Korea.
