SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea’s Daelim Industrial shut down its No 1 and 2 high density polyethylene (HDPE) plants in Yeochun again on Tuesday due to a power outage, after restarting them on Monday, a source close to the company said.

The two lines with a total capacity of 260,000 tonnes/year were shut down on Saturday due to a sudden disruption in its ethylene feedstock supply, before resuming production on Monday.

The supply was cut after Yeochun Naphtha Cracking Centre (YNCC) shut down all its crackers on the same day due to a power outage, the source added.

Daelim's 140,000 tonne/year No 3 high density and linear low density polyethylene (HDPE) swing plant in Yeochun has also been shut down since Saturday due to the ethylene supply disruption.

Plastics production had also been hit at Hanwha Chemical’s plant in Yeochun due to the local outage problem.

Other key HDPE producers in South Korea include Honam Petrochemical and Korea Petrochemical Industry Co.
