SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Korea Fine Chemical has started the turnaround at its toluene diisocyanates (TDI) facility at Yeosu 10 days earlier than planned due to a shortage of dinitrotoluene (DNT) feedstock, a company source said on Wednesday.
DNT supply from its regular supplier HuChems Fine Chemicals fell short, the source said, but declined to say what caused the shortfall.
Its TDI plant, consisting of two lines of 46,500 tonnes/year capacity each, was originally scheduled to shut down on 12 May.
However, due to the feedstock shortfall, one of the lines was shut down on 2 May and was expected to resume production on 19 May, he said.
The second line would be shut down on 12 May and would resume production on 26 May, he added.
Other key TDI producers in South Korea are BASF Urethane Korea and DC Chemical.
