LONDON (ICIS news)--Qatar Fertilizer Co’s (Qafco) number III ammonia unit has restarted production following an unplanned shutdown, a company official said on Wednesday.

“A few thousand tonnes” of ammonia for export during May had been lost due to the shutdown, the official added.

Initial estimates had put the loss at up to 10,000 tonnes.

The 630,000 tonne/year unit in Mesaieed went down on 29 April due to technical issues.

The plant was down for around six days and had now reached full capacity, the official added.

The nature of the technical issues were not revealed.

The associated urea plant remained running during the outage, using ammonia diverted from Qafco’s other ammonia plants.

Qafco usually has around 40,000 tonnes/month of ammonia available for export.
