India's Nirma plans 240kt/y caustic soda plant

MUMBAI (ICIS news)--Indian detergents and chlor-alkali producer Nirma Limited plans to start up its new 240,000 tonne/day caustic soda plant at Bhavnagar, in Gujarat state by the end of December 2008, a company source said on Thursday.

The plant is located close to the company's 650,000 tonne/year soda ash plant.

The source was speaking on the sidelines of the International Seminar on the Growth of Chlorine Derivatives (excluding Vinyls) being held here on 8 May.

Nirma also manufactures salt, linear alkyl benzene (LAB), fatty acid, glycerine, alpha olefin sulphate, intravenous fluids and sulphuric acid single super phosphate.

The one-day seminar was organised by the Alkali Manufacturers' Association of India.
