MUMBAI (ICIS news)--BASF Construction Chemicals started a new concrete admixture plant at Wuhan in central-southeastern Hubei province, in line with the company’s expansion plans in China, the German chemical major said on Thursday.

“The opening of the Wuhan plant represents a key step forward to expanding our business in China,” said general manager Huang Xu.

The capacity of the plant or the cost of setting it up were not disclosed.

The Wuhan plant produces the company’s full portfolio of concrete admixtures, including the high-end Glenium and Rheoplus ranges, which enable ready-mix concrete producers to improve concrete strength and workability, thus contributing to construction durability and efficiency, the company said.

The Wuhan government plans to invest €2.8bn ($4.31bn) in infrastructure construction in 2008, up 32% from 2007, and this is likely to increase the company's opportunity to serve the fast-growing infrastructure construction sector, the company added.
