SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mitsubishi Chemical has shut its No 1 cracker in Kashima for a scheduled maintenance, a source from the company said on Tuesday.

“We just shut our Kashima No 1 cracker today morning, and it will be restarted on 30 June,” he said.

The 375,000 tonne/year Kashima No 1 unit will be the first of three crackers in Japan that will be shut for maintenance.

The remaining two crackers that will also be shut for maintenance from this month are Mitsubishi Chemical’s 450,000 tonne/year Mizushima cracker and Maruzen Petrochemical’s 520,000 tonne/year cracker in Chiba.

Both crackers are scheduled to be shut from Thursday. However, the Mizushima cracker will be restarted on 4 June whereas Maruzen’s only cracker will be restarted end of June.

Mitsubishi Chemical is the largest producer of ethylene in Japan, which operates three crackers with a combined capacity of more then 1.4m tonnes/year.
