EDISON, New Jersey (ICIS news)--National Starch Personal Care has entered the organic personal care market with its new organic certified biopolymers line, a company executive said on Tuesday.

Demand for functional natural and organic alternatives to petroleum-based chemicals continue to rises, said Maria Tolchinsky, National Starch global marketing manager said from the sidelines of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) Suppliers’ Day tradeshow in New Jersey.

“Consumers don’t want their organic toiletries to just be environment-friendly, they also want these products to have the performance and functionality that they’re used to with petroleum-based materials.”

Tolchinsky said their Naviance biopolymers are 100% natural and are organic certified by Ecocert, Lacon and Quality Assurance International. The Naviance product line included two biopolymers made from corn and two made from tapioca.

Natural and organic personal care products are expected to grow at a double digit-rate for the next 8-10 years, said Ralph Manrique, global marketing manager, skin care.

“Personal care companies will need a broader selection of natural and organic ingredients with excellent functionality as well as new formulating concepts to meet this demand,” he added.

The two-day cosmetic show ends on Wednesday.
