PRAGUE (ICIS news)--Hungary’s Hungrana on Wednesday announced it has spent €100 million ($154 million) on tripling its bioethanol capacity to 150,000 tonnes/year.

The company started making bioethanol two years ago and in 2007 began selling its own E85 biopetrol, a spokesman for Hungrana said.

Consisting of 85% bioethanol and 15% petrol, it is so far available at 15 petrol stations in Hungary.

Hungrana hoped to raise this figure to between 100 and 150 nationwide within a year.

The company is a joint venture of Anglo-US group Eaststarch and of Austria’s Agrana and is Europe’s largest processor of maize, a key feedstock for bioethanol.
