SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Sinopec will send 20,000 tonnes of diesel and 10,000 tonnes of petrol to quake-hit Sichuan province, China, to aid in relief efforts and provide supplies for domestic use, the Chinese major said on Thursday.

The fuel supplies will also be made available to rival firm PetroChina should it run out of oil resources, Sinopec added.

Rescue missions in the region have been greatly hindered by damaged ground transport systems such as roads and rail links. Four highways have been repaired and reopened to traffic following the gradual recovery in communication channels.

Airbourne troops have been the most effective in delivering aid; with some 110 helicopters dispatched to disaster-struck regions to date.

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport also resumed full operations on Thursday to enhance the delivery of disaster relief supplies and personnel.
