TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals Inc (MCI) started commercial production at its new 75,000 tonne/year ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) in April, the Japanese chemicals producer said on Thursday.

This boosted the company’s total capacity of EPDM at the facility in Ichihara, Chiba prefecture, to 120,000 tonnes/year, the company added.

Mitsui had begun constructing the plant in August 2006 and planned to capitalise on increasing global demand for the product, it said.

EPDM is used in automotive parts, electric wire sheathings and cables and other industrial parts.
