LONDON (ICIS news)--Cabot Corp has signed a joint-venture agreement worth $40m (€26m) with China National Bluestar Group to build a 7,000 tonne/year fumed silica plant in China, the US company said on Friday.

China is an increasingly important part of Cabot’s global business. Our business and manufacturing experience in China has been highly positive,” Cabot’s president and CEO Patrick Prevost said.

“Once commissioned, our new Tianjin silica plant will be a long-term, reliable source of high quality materials for Bluestar and other customers in and outside China,” he added.

The new joint venture will be known as Cabot Bluestar Chemical, he said.

The two companies already have a joint facility producing fumed silica in Jiangxi, the company added.

Fumed silica is an additive for coating compositions.
