SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Shanghai Secco Petrochemical restarted its 500,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) plant over the weekend, said a company source on Monday.

The Shanghai-based plant was expected to ramp up to full production in the next few days after the 12-day maintenance turnaround which began on 6 May, the source added.

“The plant is upgrading operating rates step by step at present. We hope that we can reach 100% production in a short term,” said the source.

The company’s downstream 100,000 tonne/year polystyrene (PS) line, which was shut down in tandem with the SM plant, has not restarted.

Other two PS lines with a total capacity of 200,000 tonnes/year are operating at 70% of capacity.
