VIENNA (ICIS news)--The Sichuan earthquake is understood to have destroyed 80% of the Ying Feng and Hongda phosphate fertilizer plants leading to a likely shortage of monammonium phosphate (MAP), Chinese sources said on Monday.
MAP was the main ouput of the plants and it was thought that farmers would switch to greater diammonium phosphate (DAP) consumption as a consequence, sources said.
Main domestic producers, Kailin, Yuntianhua and Wengfu, would all concentrate on domestic demand rather than attempt exports, a source added on the sidelines of the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) conference, which runs from 19-21 May.
